Prof. MUDr. Faber Josef, DrSc.foto faber

Životopis:

I was born at České Budějovice (South Bohemia) on June 25, 1935. I was educated at the Třeboň Grammar School and in 1953 I enrolled at the Medical Faculty of Charles University, Prague. I took a degree doctor of medicine in 1959.
Over the past twenty five years I have been working at the Medical Faculty, Neurological Department of Charles University in Prague (Kateřinská 30, 120 00 Prague 2, 120 00).
I passed a special postgraduate examination in neurology of 1th and 2nd degrees in 1963 and 1968.
I submitted the PhD. disertation on the subject „Synchronization of EEG and Respiration“ (for degree of Candidatus Scientiarum, CSc) and a disertation on the subject „Formal Aspect of Vigilance during Petit Mal Paroxysms“ for the degree of Doctor scientiarum (DrSc) in 1980. In 1982 - 1986 I worked as a research-scientist in Psychiatric Research Institute in Prague 8, Bohnice.
I was interested in the problems of sleep, epilepsy, cerebrovascularum diseases and electorencephalography and I have published approximately sixty studies on this topic.
In recent years I have been taking interest in the long-term EEG and stereo-EEG monitoring and polygraphy monitoring in epileptics and psychotics with scalp and indwelling (implanted) electrodes during different activities in vigilance and during sleep. I try to analyze EEG curves at rest and psychotests in normal and psychotic persons, and try to simulate the EEG curve and modelate the thalamo-cortical reverberation circuits.
In my research programme I am concerned with epileptic process irradiation to other parts of the brain: mirror focus, secondary foci and especially their influence on modulation (catecholamin-, serotonin-ergic) systems. Probably this systems in competition with foci takes a leading part in epileptogemesis and „psychosogenesis“.
The problem of epilepsy, pseudoneurasthenic syndrom and psychosis is one of early diagnosis rather than of therapy. The therapy nowdays is effective. Perhaps 10% populations suffer with this localized lesions after injury, stroke, meningitis, encephalitis etc. I encloseshort list of publications for detailed information.
I cooperate with the Joint Laboratory of System Reliability, Department of Control Engineering and Telematics, Faculty of Transportation Sciences, Czech technical University, Prague on the research program concerning the detection, analysis and prediction of human subject vigilance and attention degradation in the course of artificial system operation.
